Gurgaon: Good news for Gurgaon residents.Their long wait for a public transport system will be over before the Commonwealth Games next year as the state government has decided to launch a bus service in the city on a public-privatepartnership (PPP) mode.
   The government had appointed a private consultant firm to study the transport requirements of the city and its report was recently submitted to the administration.
   The government would purchase 450 new buses, which would ply between Gurgaon, Faridabad and Delhi, besides Gurgaon city. Transport commissioner Anand Mohan Saran said 60% of the buses would be AC low-floor buses fitted with GPS system. He said tenders would be invited from agencies with international repute next month. The bus service is likely to begin by August next year.â€As many as 227 state-of-the-art bus stops will also be constructed. They will be fitted with GPS systems to allow passengers to know the bus timings,†he said. Saran said a consultant had been appointed to work out details such as bus routes, numbers and location of stops.
   “The government is considering a bus service in Manesar and four buses are plying on an experimental basis. The HSIIDC and Industrial Department will provide funds for these buses,†Saran said.
   Officials said five acres of land on Rajiv Chowk - between National Highway-8 and the mini secretariat - had been handed over to the transport department for construction of bus stands. They said the bus stands of Rajiv Chowk and Sector 29 will be multi-storeyed and centrally air-conditioned.
